Player ratings from the 32-20 win at Mount Pleasant on April 25th 2010.

James Ford – 7 – a solid if unspectacular performance from Fordy, who seems to be finally settling in to a Widnes shirt. Took his try well and was unfortunate to be on the end of a few suspect refereeing decisions in the first half

Paddy Flynn – 8 – thrives playing on the outside of TKL and finished his two tries well, his second after some great centre play by the experience Kiwi. Did his fair share of defensive work in the second half, particularly a big tackle on Gareth Moore which denied a try-scoring opportunity.

Toa Kohe-Love – 7 – missed the Lezignan cup game and was his typical solid self, strong in defence and set up Paddy’s second try with some superb centre play that probably only he is capable of in this division

Matt Gardner – 6 – still looks like he’s struggling with the arm injury suffered a few weeks back, and made a couple of errors in the second half. Perhaps a victim of the injury crisis having been moved inside to accommodate Yates

Scott Yates – 6 – made an error for the third try but tackled well besides that. Was stretchered off midway through the second half with a head injury, but is apparently OK.

Anthony Thackeray – 7 – one of his quieter games in a Widnes shirt, but when Thackeray doesn’t stand out in a performance that means the team has played very well as a whole. Looked a bit jaded, perhaps as a result of carrying us for the past few weeks.

James Webster – 8 – helped take the weight off Thackeray’s shoulders and was a calming influence in the middle of the field. Created some good breaks in the second half with scampering runs.

Jordan James – 7 – looks like his spell at Crusaders has taken a bit of his edge, but ran in the ball and put in a few good hits in defence.

Chris Gerrard – 9 – best game in a Widnes shirt. Named at hooker but played much of the game in midfield, ran through gaps, made some superb cover tackles and his try was a result of sheer determination in breaking through the line

Jim Gannon – 8 – the leader of the pack. We are worse off when he is not on the pitch. He played a large percentage of the match and came back on to steady the ship after Batley’s quickfire treble threatened to derail our victory march

Shane Grady – 7 – shifted in to the second row and didn’t let anyone down. Continues to frustrate with penalty attempts, hitting the woodwork with a simple goal from 10 metres, before following it up with a superb touchline conversion.

Ben Kavanagh – 7 – you know what you get with Kav every week, he made a great break which broke down in the second half, and redeemed for the knock on he made near our line in the first half.

Lee Doran – 9 – ran his blood to water, played the full 80 minutes and epitomised the team’s display. Didn’t miss a tackle, always made yards ball in hand, and showed a level head and discipline at times when in the past he would have perhaps made the wrong decision.

SUBS

Danny Hulme – 6 – surprised Hulme didn’t get more game time considering Coyle and Smith’s absence. Didn’t put a foot wrong, but didn’t really get much of a chance to impose himself

Ben Davies – 8 – a youngster that plays like a man with years of experience. Shows great grit and determination each week and it nearly earned him what would have been a well deserved try

David Houghton – 7 – made the hard yards up the middle, although his hand injury seems to be a hinderence in defence

Tom Kelly – 7 – another first team appearance under his belt and did himself no harm once again. Quick thinking and good hands helped set up the crucial fourth try on the stroke of half time.
